In reply to @lainlaylie "just out of curiosity,": I think the highest possible ambition is safer, higher-quality software across the board; the problem is, that's a vague, nebulous goal that all these new languages share. Still, I've seen a typical C source operating on equipment that is backing legal defenses and regulatory compliance. These codebases are NOT the quality of Carmack's Quake code, they are absolute shitshows. Programming important software in C is like trying to make safe food from raw explosive ingredients, and I'm convinced most C programmers don't understand that.
