In reply to @chronos.vitaqua "Isn't the main issue": I think about XMPP. When it started (as Jabber) it was a superb option to change from IRC. IRC folks thought, its too 'hip' and they are way cooler staying on their outdated platform. And I mean, there are good reasons for it. You might say, from their perspective, it didnt provide enough of an upgrade. But the main thing is, that XMPP offered features, that would welcome average users, outside of the community, you know, normalos. And the empathy for these kinds of people is still, to this day, about as widespread and well defended as snails in the desert.
